How to identify pure honey in Pakistan:
real vs fake honey.
Labels and a clear source story are useful starting points. Viral water, flame, and thumb tests cannot tell you with certainty whether a jar is authentic.

“Pure honey” should mean honey without added ingredients. Yet a jar’s colour, thickness, aroma, or behaviour in water cannot verify its composition on its own. The most useful first step is to ask how the honey is sourced and what evidence supports the seller’s claims.
01
Read the ingredients and the full label
Look for a product described simply as honey, with no glucose syrup, corn syrup, flavouring, or other sweetener added. A short ingredient list is a good start, but a label is still a claim from the seller; it does not independently prove what is inside the jar.
Check that the jar is sealed and that the packer or seller provides contact details, net weight, and a clear description of origin. If a floral source or region is named, ask whether the seller can explain how that origin was identified.
02
Ask about traceability and testing
Useful questions include: where was this batch collected, when was it packed, who handled it, and can the seller show a batch record or a recent laboratory report? A test report should identify the sample and the tests performed; the word “lab-tested” without details is difficult to assess.
Honey authenticity is technically difficult. No single home check can reliably settle every case, so consider appropriate laboratory results alongside a clear supply chain and batch traceability.
03
Do not rely on water, flame, or thumb tests
Online videos often claim that real honey sinks in water, burns, stays on a thumb, or does not dissolve quickly. These observations are affected by temperature, moisture, floral composition, storage, and how the test is done. They cannot confirm purity or identify what sugars are present.
When authenticity matters, ask for documented sourcing and appropriate laboratory analysis. Professional methods examine composition and use reference data; results need careful interpretation rather than a one-step home verdict.
04
Crystallization does not mean fake honey
Honey may remain liquid or form crystals over time. The speed and texture vary with its sugar balance, floral source, temperature, and storage. Crystallization alone is not proof that honey is pure, and a jar staying liquid is not proof that it is fake.
Store the jar closed in a cool, dry place. If you prefer it runny, gently warm the closed jar in warm water; avoid overheating it.
05
Use Pakistan’s standard as one reference
Pakistan has a published honey specification describing product categories and requirements. Standards and certification rules may change, so check current local requirements and verify any certification claim directly with the relevant authority.
For TharNectar, the claim is specific: our honey is gathered by local harvesters from Thar’s natural landscape and delivered without added ingredients. That describes the source and recipe; it is not a substitute for a laboratory purity test.
