Honey, health and what evidence says.

Honey is a familiar sweetener with a few promising uses. Here’s what research supports, what remains uncertain, and how to enjoy it safely.

Honey in everyday rituals—not a medicine

Honey can make food taste good and may provide short-term relief for some cough symptoms. But it is still a concentrated source of free sugars, and current research does not show that wild Thar honey prevents disease or replaces medical care.

01

It may soothe some short-term coughs

Some evidence suggests honey may soothe cough symptoms for a short time in people older than 12 months, but the evidence is limited and mixed. Honey may offer comfort; it does not cure an infection or replace medical advice. For breathing difficulty, persistent high fever, or worsening symptoms, contact a health professional.

02

It contains naturally occurring plant compounds

Honey can contain small amounts of polyphenols and other compounds from its floral source. Colour and composition vary with flowers, region, season, and handling. Laboratory measures of antioxidant activity do not prove that an ordinary serving prevents illness or treats a condition.

We don’t make medical claims for TharNectar honey: its wild origin and nothing-added promise do not prove that it prevents or treats illness.

03

Honey is still a source of sugar

Honey is mostly sugars, including naturally occurring sugars that count toward free sugar intake. Replacing table sugar with honey can change the flavour, but it does not make a drink or snack sugar-free.

Use a small drizzle to taste. If you manage blood glucose or follow a medical diet, count honey as a sweetener and follow your clinician’s advice.

04

Keep honey away from babies under 12 months

Do not give honey to infants younger than 12 months because it may cause infant botulism, a serious illness. This applies to every type of honey, including natural and raw varieties.

05

Choose honey for its source and flavour

TharNectar honey is gathered by local harvesters from Thar’s natural landscape and brought to customers without added syrups, flavours, or artificial ingredients. Those are sourcing and ingredient qualities; they are not proof of a medical benefit or that one honey is healthier than another.

Enjoy its distinct taste in tea, on toast, or over yogurt—just as you would any sweetener, in moderation.

This article is general information, not medical advice. Honey should not replace diagnosis or treatment from a qualified health professional.
